Park Friends — Your Pet's Social Life Just Got an Upgrade
You know that magical moment at the park when two dogs lock eyes, sprint toward each other, and immediately become best friends? We built a feature for that.
What's New
We're thrilled to introduce Park Friends — a brand new social feature that lets pets become official friends right from a collar scan. The next time your dog makes a new pal at the park, the other owner can scan your pet's QR tag, tap Befriend, and just like that — the two are connected forever in their own little friend network.
How It Works
- Someone scans your pet's QR collar tag and lands on their public profile page, just like a lost-pet finder would.
- Instead of (or as well as) calling you, they tap the Befriend button.
- They choose which of their own pets should be friends with yours — it only takes a second.
- If they agree to share their location, ScanCollar quietly saves a little map pin marking exactly where the two pets first met. A digital “where we became pals” moment.
Both pets then appear in each other's Social tab under Park Friends, complete with the date of the first meeting and a button to revisit that spot on the map.
Why We Built This
ScanCollar was always about more than lost pets. Yes, reuniting a dog with their family in a moment of panic is the core mission — and we're proud of how well that works. But our collars get scanned in happy moments too: at dog parks, on hiking trails, during puppy playdates.
Park Friends turns those happy scans into something lasting. A little memory. A social thread between two animals (and their humans) who found each other in the world. It's the kind of feature that makes you smile even when everything is going perfectly fine.
Privacy First, As Always
Location sharing is entirely optional and requires explicit browser permission at the moment of befriending. If the user declines — no coordinates are stored, ever. The friendship is still recorded, just without the map pin. We never track location passively or in the background.
